Fire investigators in Las Vegas, Nevada have been unable to determine the cause of a fatal fire that occurred last month in the northwest of the city.
According to accident reports, 58-year-old William Huckabee died in his pickup truck on March 1. He was a resident of El Paso, Texas.
On the day in question, fire dispatchers were called to the scene of a possible vehicular accident near I-215 and Lone Mountain Road. One caller said someone may have been trapped inside a vehicle.
When firefighters arrived, they followed the smoke and found a burning pickup truck across from 10902 W. Washburn Road. The vehicle has been almost destroyed by the time officers arrived.
A male bystander told officers that someone was inside the vehicle and he tried to rescue the individual, but the heat was too much. The bystander had tried to break the driver’s side window before he had to retreat.
He was treated for a minor injury on the scene and released.
The authorities now say that it appears the fire started inside the vehicle, but they can’t determine the exact cause.
However, beverage containers were discovered in the vehicle. Also, accident reports indicate the bystander told investigators that it seemed the driver was impaired.
Security footage from the nearby Clark County School District bus depot showed also Huckabee’s vehicle driving erratically as if the driver was impaired.
This was the second fatal fire in Las Vegas for the year so far. One person died in March in a fatal house fire in Las Vegas Valley.
Depending on the circumstances surrounding a fatal fire, survivors may seek the services of an attorney.
