Cheryl Stander Arrested for DUI After Fatal Crash Involving Motorcylist

Sixty-eight-year-old Cheryl Stander of Verdi has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing death.

The Reno Police Department reported that an unnamed motorcyclist died on Saturday night after Stander’s car hit him on West Fourth Street and Mayberry Drive.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m.

Police said the motorcyclist was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. The intersection was closed for about five hours.

No further details have been revealed about the crash. It does not appear that Cheryl Stander was injured.

Meanwhile, there was another fatal motorcycle crash on Friday night near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said an individual died on the off-ramp which goes from southbound Interstate 580 to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

The crash happened around 7:06 p.m. and the off-ramp was closed until about 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Investigations continue into both crashes.

In the meantime, people in Reno are being encouraged to look out for motorcyclists as the days get warmer.

Officer Travis Warren of the Reno Police Department said there are more bikes on the road now than in previous months.

He cautioned residents against drinking and driving, pointing out that rideshare services, taxis, and designated drivers were better options.

Warren said motorcycle riders, drivers and pedestrians all had a responsibility to ensure the city’s roads were safe.

Meanwhile, Program Manager at TMCC Safety Center, Scott Alquist urged drivers to check their blind spots and look twice. He said motorcycles tend to get taller in the mirror and not larger so it can be difficult to judge how close they are.
