Nevada Highway Patrol has revealed that one man died after he was struck by a Republic Services truck on Tuesday afternoon along Summerlin Parkway.
The authorities said 34-year-old Christopher Allen Vandenbergen, a pedestrian, entered the truck’s lane from the right shoulder and was struck by the truck’s right side.
He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. The Las Vegas resident succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
Highway patrol officials said the driver stayed at the scene following the crash and cooperated with investigators. It was not revealed whether the individual will be cited or charged.
No information was released on what caused Christopher Allen Vandenbergen to venture into the truck’s lane.
Law enforcement officials will continue to probe the crash and more details could come later.
Meanwhile, Highway Patrol revealed last week that 48 people had died on the state’s roads in the first two months of this year. This is an increase over the 40 recorded over the same period in 2019.
The agency released a deadly crash report last Monday that compared totals from January and February 2020 and 2019. It broke down the collisions by type and county.
In Clark County, Highway Patrol said there had been 27 deaths so far for 2020 compared to 26 in 2019. Eleven deaths involved pedestrians compared to nine in the previous year while four deaths involved motorcycles compared to five in the prior year.
On a positive note, there were no deaths involving bicyclists. For the same period last year, there were three.
