The Clark County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, May 12, identified Darnell Graham as the victim of a hit-and-run crash in Central Las Vegas Valley, Nevada. Accident reports revealed that the victim died of blunt force trauma following the collision.
The Metropolitan Police Department reported that the accident happened on Friday, May 8. Graham was standing at a bus stop when a 2004 Saturn Vue struck him at about 4:25 a.m. at Desert Inn Road and La Canada Street, east of Maryland Parkway.
The man driving the Saturn was described as someone in his 20s. He was heading west on Desert Inn while Graham and two other pedestrians waited at the bus stop. The car suddenly veered to the left and crossed the center median. The vehicle also crossed all the eastbound lanes before hitting the sidewalks where the pedestrians stood.
The front of the Saturn hit a brick wall and a light pole, knocking the pole to the ground, before striking the trio. Two of the pedestrians suffered minor injuries, while Graham sustained critical injuries. Medics arrived at the scene and rushed him to Sunrise Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the police said that the man driving the Saturn got out of his car after the crash and approached the pedestrians. However, when he saw their injuries, he fled the scene without providing any information regarding his identity.
It is still unclear if the police have arrested anyone in connection with the incident. Accident reports state that the crash marked the 36th traffic-related fatality investigated by the Metro this year.
