The Clark County Coroner’s Office has revealed the identity of the motorcyclist who was killed early on Friday in an accident on Interstate 15. Earlier accident reports did not state the individual’s name.
On Monday, the Nevada Highway Patrol said 26-year-old Michael Giancaspro was going north on a Suzuki motorcycle. He was reportedly approaching Craig Road at a high rate of speed when his bike hit the back of a cement truck.
Giancaspro was rushed to University Medical Center and while there, he succumbed to his injuries.
The coroner’s office said the motorcyclist died from blunt force trauma and his death was an accident.
The incident caused the road to be closed for around four hours.
This was the 11th fatal accident for the year so far in the Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command’s jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, statistics show that the number of vehicular accidents in Clark County in March was down by 23 percent when compared to March 2019. Fatal crashes are also down by a similar amount.
Across the state of Nevada, crashes are down by almost 48 percent in comparison to March 2019. This is according to a report from the Nevada Department of Public Safety.
The report did not give a reason for the reduction. However, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak issued a Stay at Home order in the middle of March.
Crashes were down in the majority of categories. However, fatal pedestrian-involved accidents in Clark County remained at 15, the equivalent of the total in March 2019. However, the statewide figures were up by nine percent.
April’s accident reports will present a clearer picture of the how the pandemic response has impacted crash rates.
