The Sparks Police Department released the name of the victim in a hit-and-run accident that occurred over the weekend.
79-year-old Roy Degiovanni of Sparks was hit by a vehicle on Sunday morning.
At approximately 2:35 in the morning, the Sparks Police Department and REMSA responded to the call of the pedestrian being hit by the vehicle that fled the scene. They found Degiovanni in the road on northbound Goldy way at Woodstone Drive.
Degiovanni was taken to the hospital with serious critical injuries.
Reports indicate that he had died later in the day on Sunday due to the injuries he sustained in the accident. The medical examiner released that Degiovanni had sustained numerous blunt force injuries from the accident that caused his death.
All that the police know is that a black Toyota left the scene of the accident. The vehicle is missing a piece of the driver’s side bumper and a part of the parking light. They are unaware if it is a sedan, truck, or SUV.
The Toyota is believed to have been traveling northbound on Goldy Way when they struck Degiovanni when he was crossing the street. The police do not know if speed, impairment, or distraction on the part of the driver is the cause of the accident.
The police are requesting that anyone with information regarding the black Toyota to call in or go to the Secret Witness website. They are currently offering a $750 reward for viable information in the Sparks hit-and-run case.
