82-Year-Old Daryoush Tavana Dies from Injuries Sustained in Crash on US 54


An elderly man died on Thursday, three days after his vehicle was rear-ended by a van on U.S. 54 in the area of mile marker 25 in El Paso, Texas.

According to official reports from the City of El Paso, he is 82-year-old Daryoush Tavana of the 10500 block of Tomwood Avenue.

Reports indicate that Special Traffic Investigations personnel were called to assist officers from the Northeast Regional Command Center on Monday following a crash that involved life-threatening injuries. 

Investigations revealed that Tavana was going north on U.S. 54 in his 1993 Toyota Camry when the accident occurred.

Twenty-six year-old Jorge Beltran of 11800 block of Henry Phipps Drive was driving in a 2016 Dodge Ram van directly behind the Camry.

Beltran was reportedly unable to limit his speed and he crashed into the back of Daryoush Tavana’s vehicle.

Tavana sustained a skull fracture as a result of the accident and he was taken to a hospital in the area. He was initially listed as in critical condition, and he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Beltran received minor injuries and he too was taken to a local hospital.

His passenger, 27-year-old Xavier Muela of 3600 block of Tierra Inca Drive was not reported to have suffered any injuries.

Tavana was the 20th traffic fatality for 2020 in the City of El Paso. At the same time last year, there 13 road deaths.
