Multiple people were injured in a vehicular accident involving two vehicles in Killeen around 10 p.m. on Friday.
Police say the drivers of a Mercedes Benz and a Dodge Charger were driving north on W.S. Young at high speeds. A Dodge Journey reportedly tried to make a left turn on Elm when it was hit by the Charger on the passenger side.
Lampasas residents Adrian Garza and Ilia Fuentes and their five kids were traveling in the Dodge Journey.
Bystanders who heard the accident helped to rescue the children. Among them was nurse Jessica Scott.
Meanwhile, emergency responders had to cut through the wreckage to extract Garza and Fuentes. The couple and their children were taken to a local hospital and Fuentes was in critical condition.
Two people in the Dodge Charger received minor injuries while no one in the Mercedes Benz was injured.
It is not yet known if anyone will be cited in connection with the crash.
Garza, a soccer coach, and Fuentes, a dental assistant, are well known in the Lampasas community. Their neighbors said they were ready to assist the injured couple in any way possible.
Garza’s soccer team plans to host a fundraiser.
Meanwhile, anyone who witnessed the accident or has information has been asked to contact Officer Matt Smith at (254)-501-8800.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), estimates that 29 percent of all accidents are caused by speeding drivers.
Driving at a high speed not only causes accidents, but it also increases the chance that someone will die or be seriously injured.
