The expertise of a car accident lawyer would be useful after a hit-and-run driver, fleeing the scene of an initial crash collided with another vehicle in Plano, Texas. The incident, which resulted in two deaths, played out on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 21.
Plano Police Department dispatched officers to a location on U.S. 75, following reports of a two-vehicle collision involving an SUV and a dump truck. It happened at about 4:15 a.m. and resulted in the death of the fleeing motorist, and a second driver.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the operator of the SUV, identified as Zachary Harbin, 32, was driving along the west travel lanes on U.S. 75, near State Highway 90. The vehicle was also conveying a 35-year-old female passenger at the time. For unknown reasons, the SUV crossed the center divider, after negotiating a turn in the roadway, causing the car to become airborne and enter the northbound lanes.
Almost immediately, the vehicle collided with a dump truck, pulling a trailer hauling equipment, northbound. Both motorists ended up critically injured.
First responders arrived shortly after and pronounced Harbin, and the other motorist, 53-year-old Alvaro Torres, deceased. The female passenger suffered major injuries, and medics transported her to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the crash happened minutes after Harbin encountered an initial crash a few miles away and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
The Plano Police Department is actively investigating the fatal occurrence.
The liability of the crash appears to be on Harbin’s path since he was overspeeding. Therefore, Alvaro’s family may need to consult a car accident lawyer should they choose to present a wrongful death claim.
