A woman died in a weekend solo crash after a vehicle she was traveling in with her seven-month-old baby crashed into a concrete pillar in El Paso, Texas. According to accident reports obtained from the El Paso Police Department, the incident took place at night on Sunday, May 10.
The reports said that a vehicle conveying Amber Torres, 25, her 7-month-old child, and a male motorist crashed at about 8 p.m. Police said the tragic occurrence took place in the 3900-block of Delta Drive.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle involved was a 2001 Ford Focus driven by 36-year-old Nathaniel West. The car was reportedly driving through Delta Avenue at a high rate of speed when it went across a shallow puddle of water.
The encounter caused the vehicle to hydroplane and lose traction, before smashing into a cement pillar. The front passenger side of the Ford received most of the impact, sustaining severe damages as a result.
When emergency responders arrived, they found the three occupants of the vehicle injured. Medics transported them to University Medical Center for treatment. Sadly, Amber Torres succumbed to her wounds shortly after they arrived at the hospital. Officers said the other two victims got treated for minor injuries.
The reports failed to disclose the baby’s identity, but police believe West and the child’s mom had a dating relationship. The accident reports did not establish whether impairment by drugs or alcohol appeared to have contributed to the fatal wreck, which remains under investigation.
