A 34-year-old mother of four has died following a March 2 crash that occurred as she was taking her children to school.
Angela Colman New was on United States Highway 183 South and heading to Zephyr when she swerved to prevent a previous rear-end collision.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said New’s Chevrolet Tahoe went through the guardrail at the side of the road.
The vehicle ended up going down an embankment and rolled several times on the way down.
The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m.
New was ejected from the vehicle. She was airlifted to San Angelo’s Shannon Medical Center for treatment. However, she later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.
The names of New’s children were not released but their ages were said to be 5, 11, 13 and 15.
They were taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for medical attention. No updates have been issued about their condition.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said impairment doesn’t appear to a factor in the crash.
It has not been revealed if New was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.
In Texas, all passengers age eight and older or 57 inches or taller are required by law to wear seat belts. It doesn’t matter whether they are sitting in the front or back seats.
Texas’ seat belt laws are primary, meaning officers can stop and ticket individuals just for not buckling up.
DPS continues to investigate the accident.
Angela Colman New’s funeral will be handled by Heartland Funeral Home and details are expected to be released later.
