Fatal Crash Claims Life of Margarita Ibarra and Alejandra Berenice-Sanabria-Alejandro

The Austin Police Department has disclosed the identities of two women who were killed on the frontage road of State Highway 71. Police gave the information on Friday following Tuesday’s accident reports that indicated a passenger car hit a fuel truck.

The deceased are 23-year-old Margarita Escalante Ibarra and her 22-year-old passenger Alejandra Berenice-Sanabria-Alejandro.

According to preliminary investigations, Ibarra was heading west on SH 71 in a 2007 Honda Fit when she failed to stop at a red light and collided with a freight fuel truck. Both Ibarra and Berenice-Sanabria-Alejandro died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the unnamed truck driver did not suffer any injuries. The individual remained at the scene to cooperate with police and no charges are likely to be filed.

However, the investigation into the crash is still ongoing so more information could be released at a later date.

This was the 25th fatal road accident in Austin for the year so far. Twenty-seven people have died. At this time last year, there were 18 road fatalities in the city.

Anyone who has information regarding this case should contact the Austin Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-8544 or submit tips via the department’s mobile app.

Even though the incidence of car crashes has reduced across the country because of lockdown associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, drivers and passengers continue to suffer injuries.

Preliminary figures suggest there has been an increase in injuries in Austin, Texas even though collisions have reduced slightly. Austin is known for being one of the most congested cities in the country.
