In new reports of a car accident that occurred over the weekend in Waco, Texas, the police have confirmed the death of two people in a single-vehicle crash. The incident took place at night on Sunday, May 31, according to the reports.
As stated by the Waco Police Department, a motorist crashed his vehicle in the 2400 block of West Lake Shore Drive, near Airport Road. The solo car crash led to the death of at least two people at about 7:50 p.m.
Preliminary investigations showed that the motorist, identified as Colbert Dee Murphy-Long, 25, was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry. Suddenly, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a group of trees on the roadside before rolling into a culvert. Waco police spokesperson, Garen Brynum, said the circumstances leading to the crash are yet to be established.
Following the crash, Murphy-Long remained trapped inside the vehicle until emergency responders arrived a few minutes later and rescued him. Sadly, the driver succumbed to his wounds before they transported him to the hospital.
A passenger traveling alongside Colbert Dee Murphy-Long in the wrecked vehicle also sustained critical injuries in the crash. Paramedics transported him to a trauma center, where he later died from his wounds. Authorities did not immediately identify the passenger.
No additional details about the crash are available at this time. The Waco Police Department is still investigating the fatal collision.
Accidents are one of the leading causes of death, and it claims lives almost every day in Texas. While a driver’s negligence and distraction are some of the primary reasons behind auto crashes, reports of car accidents show that other non-human factors contribute.
In cases of traffic collisions, witnesses need to report the car accident as soon as possible to ensure a timely response.
