Two women are dead, and a young child was hospitalized following a crash on Wednesday night in the area of the Ross Rogers Golf Course. Their relatives may seek the services of a top accident lawyer.
The deceased are 32-year-old Margaret Marion Finch and 44-year-old Leskisha Nicole Washington.
Amarillo police responded to the two-vehicle crash in the area of NW 24th Avenue and N Jefferson Street around 9:49 p.m.
Based on news reports, Finch was heading east on 24th in a 2005 Nissan Altima.
Meanwhile, 36-year-old Ykevia Dashawn Johnson was heading west in a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer and turning onto Jefferson.
Police said Johnson failed to yield the right of way to Finch and that caused Finch to hit Johnson.
Emergency responders took Finch and her two passengers, Washington, and a one-year-old baby, to a hospital. They sustained life-threatening injuries.
Finch died from her injuries in the hospital later that day. Washington subsequently died.
Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Johnson did not suffer any injuries. After she was medically cleared, officers charged her with intoxicated manslaughter, intoxicated assault, and injury to a child.
These charges followed Finch’s death only and additional charges could be coming.
Officers booked Johnson into the Potter County Detention Center.
The Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad will continue to probe the accident.
If the survivors of the victims hire a top accident lawyer, they will also look into the crash.
On average, ten people die on Texas’ roads every day and many more suffer injuries.
