Dillon Patrick Coy Killed in Taylor Crash Involving 18-Wheeler

The Taylor Police Department is investigating its first traffic fatality of the year. According to Texas accident reports, the deceased is 24-year-old Dillon Patrick Coy.

The Bremond resident was killed in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler in Taylor on Monday morning. Officers responded to the 300 block of Carlos Parker Boulevard Southwest at 5:45 a.m., the department said in a press release.

Police say Coy was traveling westbound in a 2001 Honda when he swerved off the road. He struck a reflector pole, overcorrected, and then drove into oncoming traffic. Coy subsequently struck an 18-wheeler. He was declared dead at the scene.

No reason was given for Coy veering off the road.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, 56-year-old Theodore Dalton Wells sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Seton Williamson County Medical Center for treatment.

The authorities did not say whether there were passengers in either vehicle.

Police have not filed any criminal charges and they’re not expected to do so.  However, the investigation into Coy’s death is still ongoing. More information could be published in subsequent accident reports.

Wells has the right to seek compensation for his injuries with help from a car injury lawyer.

There are several reasons why drivers veer out of their lanes. These include distractions, drowsiness, impairment, and medical problems.

Regardless of why a vehicle leaves the roadway, it endangers both the driver and other road users. There can also be significant property damage.
