Fifty-nine-year-old Donald Jay Mires is dead after crashing his motorcycle into the back of a car in Killeen on Tuesday.
The Killeen Police Department received a report of a major crash involving a motorcycle and a car in the 13100 block of South State Highway 195.
According to published reports, when the Traffic Unit arrived, they were told that an individual was walking across the highway’s southbound lanes.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a white Toyota Prius was heading southbound on the highway and the driver spotted the pedestrian trying to cross Highway 195.
They slowed down as the individual changed directions and started to walk back towards the road shoulder.
As the Toyota slowed down, a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle ran into its rear.
The impact caused 59-year-old Donald Jay Mires to be thrown from his motorcycle.
He was flown to Baylor Scott and White Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the unnamed pedestrian, said to be a 31-year-old man, was taken into custody by police. He was charged with pedestrian failure to yield right of way to a vehicle and public intoxication.
Both charges are Class C misdemeanors in Texas.
The Killeen Police Department said it has a policy of not releasing the names of people charged with misdemeanors.
The operator of the Toyota did not appear to be injured. Their name was not released.
The authorities will continue to investigate the accident and more information will be provided if it becomes available.
