A Bullard High School student has died following a Texas car crash that occurred on Friday.
School officials say Emma Sikes was a sophomore at the school. She died on Saturday.
The Bullard Police Department said the accident happened around 12:30 p.m. in front of Whataburger.
Another Bullard student was reportedly involved in the accident but neither their name nor condition has been released.
There were no official accident reports online detailing the circumstances in which the crash occurred. It is not known whether the accident was a single-car crash or if there were other vehicles involved.
Officials from Bullard Independent School District said they would provide counseling for students and staff. Those who need to see the counselor were asked to contact Bullard ISD to make the necessary arrangement.
Parents were also asked to be on the lookout for significant changes in their children’s behavior that suggest they may need help.
In paying tribute to Sikes in a written statement, Superintendent Dr. Jack Lee said she was a bright student who was involved in several activities.
She belonged to a band, participated in Spanish club and also showed pigs as member of the FFA chapter.
Students gathered on Saturday morning to mourn Sikes’ loss.
Meanwhile, a Facebook page was initially set up to raise funds for Emma’s medical care, but it has since been adjusted to include funeral costs.
As of Monday afternoon, the total donated had surpassed the $15,000 target.
Further details about the crash will be published in subsequent accident reports. Depending on the circumstances in which the accident occurred , Sikes family may seek advice from a car accident lawyer.
