Enrique Hernandez has been identified as the deceased victim of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash that occurred eleven days ago on Decker Lane, Austin, Texas. According to accident reports, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased on April 24.
Enrique’s body was found, lying in a ditch, by some workers who were on the side of the roadway. At first, medical examiners couldn’t decipher how the body got into the ditch, or how Enrique died.
The Sheriff’s Office later gave an update on the matter on Thursday. They revealed that the deceased was hit by an unknown vehicle traveling down the Farm to Market road on Travis County.
The impact of the hit caused the deceased to fall on the roadway and into the ditch. Accident reports also state that the unknown car left the scene of the crash, leaving no debris or skid marks. The 20-year-old Enrique, who is from Austin, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Investigations remain ongoing.
Pedestrian accidents frequently occur in the state of Texas, with most of them occurring at night. Older people and young children are the most vulnerable to pedestrian accidents.
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also say that 1 in every five children (under the age of 14) killed in traffic accidents are pedestrians, while people aged 65 or older constitute 19% of all pedestrian deaths every year.
The number of pedestrian accidents can be significantly reduced if pedestrians and motorists alike pay attention while walking or driving.
