Family of Puar Gay, Who Died From COVID-19 Sues Company for Negligence

The family of an Amarillo Tyson Foods worker who died from COVID-19 two weeks ago is suing the company for causing the victim’s death in Amarillo, Texas. The negligence lawsuit, filed on Monday, May 18, alleges that the company’s employee, Pwar Gay, contracted the virus which eventually killed her, due to the company’s negligence.

The suit accuses the company of negligence, which caused Pwar Gay to hurt her knees and come down with the new coronavirus. Court documents obtained showed that several other workers at the Amarillo Tyson plant had contracted the virus since the outbreak.

The lawsuit claims that Gay’s family suffered both financial loss and mental anguish while dealing with the victims’ condition and after her death.

As part of the civil lawsuit, a federal judge issued a summon for the food company on Monday, over the coronavirus death.

Gay’s diagnosis is one of 1500 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tyson Foods following a recent testing exercise of over 4000 workers at the Amarillo Plant.

Director of Amarillo Public Health Casie Stoughton said the majority of this number resides outside the Potter and Randall counties of Amarillo. They otherwise would have significantly increased the total cases of the coronavirus infection in Amarillo, further mounting pressure on the city’s health system.

The terms of the negligence lawsuit against the Amarillo Tyson Foods processing plant remains unclear at this time.
