Authorities are investigating a tragic ATV accident that left one woman dead in San Juan, Texas. Accident reports obtained from the Texas Department Public Safety revealed the crash happened at midnight on Sunday, May 17. Authorities disclosed the victim’s identity as 26-year-old Jennifer Gutierrez.
In a press release, DPS officials confirmed the crash, saying it happened at about 12 a.m. on Piedras Negras Street, just south of Ridge Road. The involved parties notified authorities at about 7 a.m., from the hospital, hours after the tragic occurrence.
Investigators gathered that the deceased was one of three women riding an all-terrain vehicle along Piedras Negras. Jennifer Gutierrez, traveling as a passenger, suddenly fell off the moving four-wheeler for reasons yet to be established. She suffered major injuries in the fall.
They transported the woman to McAllen Medical Center for treatment, where sadly, she passed away from her injuries hours later.
Officers are yet to determine if the motorist was responsible for the fall by means of speed, distracted driving, or other factors. Investigators do not believe intoxication played a role in the fatal accident, and no one has been arrested or charged at this time.
The cause and liability of the crash remain under investigation by the DPS.
