A man turned up dead over the weekend after a vehicle he was driving encountered a solo crash near the Odessa area of Ector County, Texas. The tragic crash took place at night on Saturday, May 9, according to the accident reports obtained from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The DPS responded to a location on U.S. Highway 385, following reports of a rollover crash just after 10:49 p.m. Troopers said it happened about four miles north of Odessa and involved a Ford F-150 conveying at least one person.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fatal victim was the driver of the Ford, which was at the time traveling through the south traffic lanes of U.S 385. For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered out of the south lanes and crossed the center median. The motorist overcorrected almost immediately, causing the car to flip over.

Troopers said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene a short while later and attempted to rescue the victim, but he was already dead.

Authorities disclosed the identity of the deceased motorist as Gen Hernandez, a 39-year-old man from Odessa. The accident reports did not reveal whether anyone else was involved in the traffic wreck.

Police have not made any other information regarding the incident available at this time. The cause of the tragic crash that claimed Hernandez’s life remains under investigation by the DPS.
