Fredrick Mayhan, Cequil Clemons Arrested For Killeen Crash That Injured 7

Authorities said two men were street racing when they caused a three-vehicle crash late last month in Killeen that injured seven members of a local family.

Fredrick L. Mayhan, 47, and CeQuil S. Clemons, 24, were arrested this week on charges of racing on a highway causing serous bodily injury, according to Killeen police. Bell County Jail records state Mayhan was booked Tuesday, but don’t yet list Clemons as an inmate.

Police the two were racing two vehicles north on W.S. Young Drive at about 10 p.m. Feb. 28 approaching another vehicle that was attempting to turn onto Elms Road. One of the racing vehicles crashed into the turning vehicle before striking the other speeding car, according to investigators.

Ilia Fuentes, a passenger in the vehicle struck by the street racers, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to an area trauma center for treatment, police said. The driver, Adrian Garza, and five children were transported to area hospitals via ambulance.

Family friends started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Fuentes, Garza and their children, who live in Lampasas. About $4,500 has been raised since the campaign was launched March 1.

In an update posted March 17, organizers said Fuentes “is still not fully awake, but progressing each day.”

“The kids miss her a lot and can’t wait to have her back,” organizers wrote. “We still don’t know how long her recovery is going to be, but we are fighting for justice because they just didn’t deserve any of this.”
