Jose M. Moreno Killed After Crashing into Back of 18-Wheeler

Police in San Antonio have confirmed that a man was killed last Friday in an accident involving an 18-wheeler.

He is 30-year-old Jose M. Moreno.

The crash took place shortly before 8 a.m. on Loop 1604 on the far West Side.

It occurred along the southbound access road near the Wiseman exit.

The truck was parked on the side of the access road with its hazard lights on.

Police said Moreno was driving a pickup truck and was traveling at a high rate of speed when he smashed into the back of the big rig.

The 18-wheeler driver did not sustain any injuries.

Public information officer for the San Antonio Police Department Officer Alisia Pruneda revealed some information about how the crash occurred.

She said Jose M. Moreno was not wearing a seatbelt and he died almost immediately.

She said investigations also suggested that he may have been distracted since a YouTube video was playing on his cell phone while first responders tried to save him.

Pruneda said Moreno ended up pinned under the big rig in his pickup truck.

The driver of the 18-wheeler is not facing any charges.

Pruneda noted that many crashes sthat result in fatalities happen because of distracted driving. She said just taking your eyes off the roadway for a second can be dangerous.

Accidents involving 18-wheelers are often fatal for the people in the other vehicle. This is because of the comparative size and weight of these vehicles.
