Lillie Upchurch Dies After Being Ejected from Vehicle

A 43-year-old Gatesville, Texas woman died on Monday after her car left the road and flipped over several times. In accident reports, officials identified her as Lillie Upchurch.

She was driving along State Highway 931 early in the afternoon when she lost control of her vehicle.

Coryell County Justice of the Peace Coy Latham said the car careened into a ditch and began to flip.

Latham officially declared that Upchurch was dead at the scene and he ordered that her body be taken for an autopsy.

Latham said Upchurch was heading to Temple to shop when the accident occurred. She was not carrying any passengers.

The Justice of the Peace also revealed that the victim was not wearing her seatbelt and she was thrown from the vehicle. No further information was revealed in Tuesday’s accident reports.

On average, car accidents claim the lives of ten people in Texas every day. Many people suffer injuries as they make their way around. The number of accidents in the state has proven to be a concern.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has a plan to end all road fatalities by 2050. But first, the aim is to cut traffic deaths in half by 2035. This would mean reducing deaths by about 1,800 each year.

Texas Transportation Commissioner Laura Ryan said officials would work to make the roads safer by investing in the best engineering practices.

However, she said drivers and passengers also had to act more responsibly to end the daily deaths throughout the state.
