An elderly man suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a car in far east El Paso on Tuesday night.
Accident reports from the El Paso Police Department identified him as 85-year-old Marco Antonio Menier.
He was reportedly crossing the road in the 1800 block of Desert Sun Drive when the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m.
Thirty-three-year-old Clint resident Jorge Luis Montes was driving a 2004 Hyundai Accent in the area at the same time and he hit Menier.
Investigators said Menier was walking in an area without a crosswalk and he was a block away from his home.
He suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
It is not known whether Montes will be cited or charged in connection with the fatal crash.
The police department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit is leading the investigation.
This was El Paso’s 30th traffic-related death for 2020. At the same time last year, there were 26 such fatalities.
There have been several serious or fatal accidents in El Paso over the last few days. Six people died while a seventh is fighting for life in hospital, accident reports state.
The crashes have involved pedestrians, motorcycles, and cars. Some involved multiple vehicles while others were single-car accidents.
Texas is one of the most dangerous states for pedestrians. While overall traffic fatalities were on the decline last year, pedestrian fatalities showed a marked increase.
