A fatal accident which happened this week in Southeast Odessa, Texas, claimed the life of a female motorist who has now been identified. The Odessa Police Department, on Tuesday, May 5, named the deceased motorist as Genoveva Hernandez, 54, of Monahans, hours after the crash occurred.
With the intervention of auto accident attorneys in the state, the victim’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
According to the release from the Odessa Police Department, the fatal collision was recorded early on Tuesday morning, at about 7:32 am, in the area of IH-20 and East Loop 338. From investigations conducted at the scene, it was gathered that the traffic collision involved a Nissan Sentra driven by the fatal victim and an 18-wheeler.
The 18-wheeled vehicle was reportedly heading east on IH-20, taking to the outside lane of the 5900-block, with 74-year-old Vincente Aguirre behind the wheels. At the same time, the white Nissan was traveling eastbound on the inside lane of the 5900-block of IH-20.
The Nissan operator suddenly made a lane change, onto the path of the 18-wheeler, which instantly struck the smaller vehicle. First responders transported Hernandez to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The reports did not indicate the presence of a passenger in either vehicle. The second motorist was not harmed in the collision.
It is still unknown what caused Hernandez to make the unsafe lane change that led to her death. Auto accident attorneys have been known to review such cases and come up with adequate evidence to present a wrongful death claim when representing the fatal victim’s family.
