The driver of a Nissan GTR died on Friday morning after the individual ran a stop sign and caused a fiery crash in East El Paso.

According to accident reports, the fatal crash occurred around 9:55 a.m. at the corner of Edgemere and Wedgewood.

The Nissan was heading north on Wedgewood when it was involved in a collision with a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was going west.

The Chevrolet subsequently hit a BMW.

The driver of the Nissan died at the scene. Police have not released the person’s name pending notification of their next of kin.

El Paso police said the driver of the BMW was 69-year-old Craig Delman. He was taken to hospital. Delman’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet was identified as 70-year-old Elvia Guardiola. Police did not indicate that she suffered any injuries.

A cloud of fire and smoke came from the car after it crashed. People living streets away said they heard the impact.

Wedgewood resident Belinda Hover said it was the worst wreck she had ever seen on that street.

She pointed out that debris from the crash ended up in her yard and other parts of the street. A battery landed three houses from the wreck and a tire was spotted about six houses down.

Hover said it was difficult to feel safe on the street since people drive much faster than the 35-mph speed limit for the area.

The name of the deceased driver is expected in subsequent accident reports.
