The family of a Harker Heights woman may soon be seeking help from a Texas car accident lawyer.
Last Saturday, 34-year-old Rebecca King died on the spot after a truck in which had been passenger ran over her.
Her name was released by the Texas Department of Public Safety on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Sgt Deon Cockrell said King had been traveling in a Ford F-150 pickup along Williamson County Road 221, just off U.S. Highway 183.
For reasons that are not yet known, the victim opened the door and got out of the truck while it was moving.
King was subsequently run over by the truck and declared dead at the scene.
The crash happened a little before 2 p.m. and it forced the closure of the roadway between Highway 183 and CR 221.
Investigators continue to investigate the accident. The name of the driver and their relationship to the victim were not made public.
The authorities also did not provide any information about whether they would charge or cite the person.
Fatal accidents continue to be a concern in Texas even though there are fewer vehicles on the road because of the response to COVID-19.
Many of these accidents involve just one vehicle.
The situation has received the attention of Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. He expressed concern that people were dying on the roads every day even though people were only supposed to leave home when it’s absolutely necessary.
He said drivers were speeding and engaging in other dangerous practices as they made their way around.
Families of victims can seek advice from a car accident lawyer to determine if anyone can be held liable for their loved one’s death.
