Police: Jose Marquez Killed In Suspected DUI Crash In Midland

A Perryton man has been arrested on a manslaughter charge after a single-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon in Midland.

Ulices Carranza-Carranza, 21, was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, according to Midland authorities. He was arrested Monday and is being held at the Midland County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

Carranza-Carranza allegedly was intoxicated when he was driving south on Loop 250 at about 4:50 p.m. Monday, authorities said. He eventually lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway.

The vehicle rolled and Carranza-Carranza’s passenger, Jose P. Marquez, 22, of Perryton, was ejected, according to investigators. Emergency responders were called to the scene of the wreck, but Marquez was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a hospital for treatment.

Carranza-Carranza also sustained injuries in the crash, according to authorities, but they weren’t life-threatening. He was released to the Midland County Jail after receiving treatment.

Under Texas law, intoxication manslaughter is a second-degree felony, which carries a sentence of two to 20 years in prison upon conviction. Conviction also carries a fine of up to $10,000 and temporary suspension of driving privileges.

According to online inmate roster for the Midland County Jail, Carranza-Carranza remains held pending disposition of his case. Court records do not list an attorney.
