Authorities have publicly identified the man killed in a rollover wreck Monday in Laredo.
Police said Michael Garza Jr., 21, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Two other occupants of the vehicle, whose names have not been released by authorities, also were injured, authorities said.
Garza reportedly was in a vehicle that was driving in the 200 block of Houston Street just after 5:30 a.m. Monday. The crash caused the vehicle to roll and smash into a nearby structure.
Emergency responders declared Garza dead at the scene. The other men, ages 25 and 19, were hospitalized with injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening, Laredo police said.
Authorities do not believe any of the men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck.
Friends of Garza set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for his funeral expenses.
“Mikey was known for always being a very humble and loving young superman. He loved Superman,” organizers wrote in the campaign page. “We are saddened by this tragic incident and wish his family and friends our sincere condolences. May his soul rest in peace.”
The campaign was organized three days ago. In that time, nearly $7,000 has been raised toward a $20,000 goal.
