Police said a 20-year-old man was fatally injured Wednesday night when he was struck by a vehicle while walking along an Amarillo street.
Sasha A. Davidson was transported to an area hospital after the incident, where he ultimately was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to police. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Police said Davidson was walking along the 2400 block of Georgia Street at about 10 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a northbound pickup truck. The driver of the truck, a 41-year-old man, was not publicly identified by police.
Emergency responders transported Davidson to an area hospital with what were believed at the time to be non-life-threatening injuries. However, he later died at the hospital, authorities said.
Police have not announced whether any citations or charges will be issued as a result of the wreck. They have not said whether other factors, such as speed or intoxication, might have contributed to the crash.
The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident. Authorities have ordered an autopsy.
Additional details were not available as of Thursday night. Media outlets also reported various spellings of Davidson’s name, and it wasn’t immediately clear which was correct.
