Police in Frisco are probing a crash that claimed the lives of three people and left another in hospital. The deceased are 34-year-old Divya Avula, her husband, 41-year-old Raja Gavini, and 42-year-old Premnath Ramanatham.

Avula was the driver. The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. at the Farm-to-Market Road 423/ De Webb Boulevard intersection.

The deceased were traveling in a black Acura. The driver of a Ford F-150 allegedly hit the Acura when it was trying to turn. A juvenile was driving the Ford and their identity has not been released.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the pickup had the green light while the Acura had a flashing yellow arrow.

The three people in the Acura died at the scene. Authorities said Divya Avula, Raja Gavini, and Premnath Ramanatham were all residents of Frisco.

Meanwhile, the teenage driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have not filed any charges in connection with the fatal crash. However, anyone who saw the accident or has information about it has been asked to call 972-292-6010.

According to statistics from the National Safety Council, around 15 percent of all vehicle crashes are caused by drivers who fail to yield when they should. These types of accidents are the second leading cause of traffic fatalities in the United States.

Motorists who fail to yield may be distracted or confused about which car has the right of way at an intersection. Sometimes, drivers fail to see oncoming traffic or assume a vehicle is approaching more slowly than it really is.
