A crash that took place on the Zilwaukee Bridge on Thursday, March 26, left one person with non-serious injuries. The incident took place in the early morning hours at around 7:30 a.m.
According to the details shared by the authorities, the crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the bridge. On Thursday morning, the troopers were notified of a crash near the 153-mile marker on the bridge. The crash site falls within the Saginaw County limits.
Michigan State Police troopers later revealed that the incident happened when a pick-up driver lost control of the vehicle. A 70-year-old man was driving the pick-up at the time. The vehicle also had one other passenger who has been identified as a 47-year-old Millington man. The pick-up was towing a vehicle when its driver appears to have lost control of it. As he did, the pick-up veered across three traffic lanes before colliding into the median wall.
Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver of the pick-up remained safe and free from any injuries. The passenger sustained some injuries and was transported to a local hospital to treat mild symptoms such as neck pain, probably a result of whiplash.
In the wake of the crash, two lanes at Exit 154 of the Zilwaukee Bridge were closed as the authorities conducted help, rescue and investigations. The lanes remained close for a little over an hour and were reopened by 9 a.m. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to understand what caused the driver of the pick-up to lose control of the vehicle.
More updates to follow as soon as victim name is released.
