The expertise of auto accident attorneys would come in handy after a motorist fled the scene of a two-vehicle collision and later got arrested in San Angelo, Texas. The incident took place on Monday afternoon, May 18.
Officers responded to the crash just after 2 p.m. on reports of a reckless motorist who bumped a minivan at the intersection of 29th Street and Martin Luther King Drive.
Police said the crash began when the motorist, identified as Jonathan D. Borrego, failed to yield to a red light at the crossing. The suspect reportedly entered the intersection unlawfully and collided with a Checker Cab minivan, which had the right of way.
Officers arrived at the scene of the collision barely minutes later, prompting Borrego to abandon the Dodge Ram pickup truck he was driving and fled the scene on foot. Meanwhile, the cab driver went unscathed.
Investigations revealed the Dodge matched the description of one stolen earlier out of Crockett county, with a newly painted passenger compartment and bumpers.
Deputies did not locate the suspect until about 4 p.m. on the same day when officers showed up at a resident in the unit block of West 30th Street in response to a distress call. The caller reported a suspicious looking man who appeared knocked out underneath a vehicle in the area.
Responding officers noticed the man’s clothing sported streaks of paint. They identified him as the same person who fled the crash site earlier.
Police arrested Borrego on charges of Evading Arrest Detention. Additional charges may apply pending the outcome of the investigations, which may be reviewed by auto accident attorneys.
