A San Antonio cardiologist is now facing a charge of intoxication manslaughter. Meanwhile, the family of a young man may be looking for a Texas car accident lawyer.
The authorities have identified 60-year-old Hector Osorio as the suspected intoxicated driver who was involved in a fatal crash on Wednesday night.
According to a police report, Osorio was driving his 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE 43 AMG the wrong way along I-37 in the area of Loop 410 on the southeast side.
He crashed his car into a 1988 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was driven by an unidentified 21-year-old man.
The head-on collision happened around 10 p.m.
Police say Osorio refused to accept medical treatment at a hospital. Officers determined that he was driving drunk and they charged him.
Officials at Methodist Health System said the accused man was a contract hospitalist with Cardiology Clinic of SA.
If Osorio is convicted, he will face serious penalties. Intoxication manslaughter is a second-degree felony in Texas. This means it carries a prison sentence of between two and 20 years. Osorio could also have to pay a fine of up to $10,000.
Conviction of intoxication manslaughter also results in the imposition of mandatory community service. Osorio would have to serve between 240 and 800 hours of community service.
The victim’s family may have the right to file a wrongful death claim with help from a car accident lawyer. Relatives of car accident victims can get compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, emotional distress, and other damages.
