Benjamin Williams Charged with Leaving Scene of Crash

Following an accident that left a woman and three children nursing injuries on Saturday, a teenaged driver is facing charges. The family could seek the services of a Texas car injury lawyer.

Eighteen-year-old Temple resident Benjamin Williams has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Police spokesman Chris Christoff said officers responded to the crash near Azalea Drive and Lowes Drive around 4:45 p.m.

Temple police said Williams fled the scene of the crash on foot and they found him hiding in a backyard nearby.

The accident involved a four-door Audi sedan driven by Williams and a Chevrolet Malibu in which the unnamed mother and children were traveling.

The family was taken to hospital. The mother was said to be seriously hurt while the children suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Williams was transported to Bell County Jail after he was charged with failure to stop and render aid.

Leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in severe injuries or death is a third-degree felony. It attracts a sentence of up to ten years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.

For accidents that result in minor injuries, the driver could spend up to a year in county jail or up to five years in a state prison. The maximum fine is $5,000.

Criminal and civil penalties are separate so the injured woman may be able to get compensation for her losses whether or not Williams is convicted. Like many accident victims, she may hire a car injury lawyer to represent her and her children.
