A multivehicle crash involving a car, a pickup truck towing a boat, and two semi-trucks with trailers, left Tommy Chalk, 21, and Mikayah Griggs,19, injured. According to accident reports, the collision happened on Interstate Highway 45, a mile north of Roane Road, Texas, on Thursday, May 7.
Following distress calls, the Texas DPS troopers arrived at the scene at about 12:45 p.m. Initial investigations into the cause of the crash revealed that a black 2008 Pontiac was traveling southbound on the I-45.
The Pontiac kept to the right lane and was traveling at a reduced speed due to a flat tire. Behind the Pontiac was a white 2000 International truck tractor towing a gray Transport semi-trailer.
A white 2016 Peterbilt truck tractor towing an orange 2000 Hyundai semi-trailer was also traveling south in the center lane and behind the International truck tractor. Next to the Peterbilt tractor, and on the left lane, was a grey Ford F-250 that was towing a Centurion Avalanche boat.
The International truck tractor failed to control its speed for reasons unknown and hit the Pontiac in the rear. The impact caused the International truck tractor to jack-knife toward the right shoulder. The Peterbilt tractor also struck the left rear of the Transport semi-trailer, causing it to veer to the left, and end up striking the Ford.
The impact of the collision also caused the Ford to ram into the retaining wall. The towed Centurion Avalanche boat was launched to the top of the retaining wall, causing the Ford to get pinned between the Peterbilt truck and the retaining wall.
Chalk and Griggs, driver and passenger of the Pontiac, and both of Dallas, sustained injuries as a result of the crash. Medics transported them by ambulance to Navarro Regional Hospital.
Meanwhile, Eddy Rubio, 59, of Houston, Tahl Cole, 50, of Fresno, and Henry Asprey, 23, of Lubbock were identified as drivers of the International truck tractor, the Peterbilt tractor, and the Ford F-250, respectively. Payton Jackson, 23, also of Lubbock, was a passenger in the Ford. They were all unhurt from the accident.
Accident reports state that the north and southbound lanes of the Interstate Highway 45 were closed for a few hours due to the accident. The roads were reopened at about 4:45 p.m. Investigations into the crash remain ongoing.
