Truck Versus Bicycle Collision Kills John David Hernandez in Milam County

A bicycle accident attorney would be needed in the Rockdale City of Milam County, Texas, after a tragic collision between a truck and a bicycle resulted in the death of a 66-year-old cyclist. The incident took place on Sunday, April 19.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to a crash on US Highway 79 in west Rockdale and found an elderly cyclist unresponsive on the roadway.

Investigators determined that the fatal victim was traveling west on a bicycle through the center turn lane on Highway 79. At the same time, a Dodge Ram pickup truck was westbound on the highway, heading in the direction of the cyclist.

Police said the elderly man riding the bicycle failed to yield the right of way to the truck, and rode into its path. Before the driver of the truck could steer away from the cyclist’s path, the two vehicles collided.

Paramedics arrived at the scene of the encounter shortly after and pronounced the cyclist dead. Authorities have since identified the fatal victim as John David Hernandez, a 66-year-old man from Rockdale.

The driver of the vehicle was not harmed in the crash. Police did not disclose any information about the motorist, or how many occupants were present in the car at the time of the collision.

The reports filed to affirm whether impairment was suspected as a possible factor in the two-vehicle collision.

The incident remains under investigation by the DPS.

It is important that victims of bicycle accidents or their families get in touch with a bicycle accident attorney to assess the case and review all available evidence.
