Community Supporting Family of 8-Year-old Accident Victim Daniel Garcia

Relatives, co-workers, and members of the wider community in Tyler are coming together to support a mother whose eight-year-old son died in a car accident.

According to accident reports, Daniel Garcia and his mother Urania were heading home on April 22 when they were rear-ended by another vehicle while at a red light.

Their car was pushed across the road and into a Taco Bell parking lot.

Daniel was air-lifted to the Children’s Hospital in Dallas and he succumbed to his injuries several days later.

The boy’s aunt Sonia Nieto said it was a tragic way to die and it was difficult to comprehend.

She said her sister’s car was so crushed that it looked like aluminum foil.

According to Daniel’s obituary, he was #3 on his soccer team. The number symbolized his belief that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit would make his team win.

The obituary said Daniel requested a prayer before every game.

He also enjoyed collecting rocks and eating foods cooked by his grandmother.

Urania’s coworker Rachel Baker set up a GoFundMe account for the family because she felt she had to help in some way.

The community raised more than $10,000 in 24 hours.

Baker said she didn’t want Daniel’s family to have to worry about money. She simply wanted them to be able to give their young loved one the service he deserved.

Tyler police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

If more information is made public, it will be published in subsequent accident reports.
