The man who was killed in a horrific hit-and-run incident on Sunday has been identified as 29-year-old Abdimalik Maigag.

According to accident reports, the other driver who was involved in the collision is in police custody.

Police said the crash happened on the southbound 59 feeder road in the area of Hillcroft Avenue around 9:25 p.m.

A Cadillac hit a Honda that was exiting the freeway at Hillcroft with such force that it threw the driver from the vehicle and pushed it into a concrete pylon.

The Honda split in two and the Cadillac landed on top of the ejected driver who is now known to be Maigag.

The victim’s brother told the media, Maigag was a loving person who was a great friend to many.

Meanwhile, police revealed that the driver of the other car, 62-year-old Jose Talamantes, ran away from the scene. However, onlookers helped police locate him at a home in southwest Houston.

Chief of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office’s Vehicular Crimes Division, Sean Teare, said Talamantes’ “coldness” stood out in this case.

He said the suspect smelled of alcohol and his blood tests showed he was over the legal limit.

Court records indicate that Talamantes has used different names over the years and his criminal record dates back to 1979.

Prior to Sunday’s accident, he had been convicted of driving while intoxicated twice.

Teare said he would now be charged with felony murder and failure to stop and render aid.

He added that he would recommend to the judge that Talamantes be held without bail.

It is not yet known if Maigag’s family will be seeking the services of a car accident lawyer. Further details could be published in subsequent accident reports.
