Update: Abdullah Baidas Loses Legs After Jumping Over Overpass to Avoid Crash

The man who jumped off an I-45 overpass last Friday in an effort to avoid a tractor-trailer has lost both legs. Earlier accident reports on the fatal collision indicated that he suffered serious injuries.

Abdullah Baidas is currently hospitalized in an intensive care unit, according to his uncle.
The crash involved an Amazon delivery truck and four-passenger vehicles, one of which was pulling a trailer.

It occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 45 near Rankin.

Police say a Lincoln Navigator hauling a trailer was heading south on I-45 when it sustained a flat tire. The driver pulled over.

A mother, father, and two children were inside the vehicle.

A Mazda hit the rear of the trailer while the Navigator was pulled over. The driver of the Mazda and the mother got out of their vehicles.

A Chevy Silverado subsequently swerved to avoid the crash and ended up hitting a wall and spinning into the middle of the highway.

Baidas saw the crash and got out of his Chevrolet Suburban to help.

At the same time, an Amazon Prime truck crashed into all the vehicles and ran over the two drivers who had exited their vehicles.
Baidas saw the truck approaching and jumped off the overpass to avoid it.
He landed a minimum of 10 to 15 feet below.

He was able to call 911 and report the crash but was later found to have suffered multiple skull and spine fractures. His legs had to be amputated, his uncle said but Baidas is now said to be in stable condition.

Medical examiners say the man who was killed in the crash was Kedrick Conrad Cox. The female victim has not yet been identified but her identity could be released in subsequent accident reports. The victims and their families may seek the services of a car injury lawyer.
