Police Seek Second Driver After Man Dies in Illegal Gardena Street Race Crash

ANOTHER LOS ANGELES STREET RACING ACCIDENT KILLS AND INJURES MOTORISTS

One 50-year-old man lost his life on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, when he was ejected from his vehicle in an automobile accident that police believe was an illegal street racing wreck in Gardena, near the intersection of Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue. The fatal car crash occurred when the deceased man’s Ford Mustang plowed into a Honda minivan going west on 155th Street, flipping and ejecting the driver of the Ford.

Police were searching this week for the driver of a late-model, white Audi A4, the second vehicle believed to have been involved in the street race, which sped away to the south on Vermont Avenue before the arrival of Gardena Police Department officers. The Audi driver was reportedly an African-American man in his twenties.

Others Injured

The innocent travelers in the Honda van hit by the racing Ford did not escape unscathed. The driver of the van, as well as a female passenger in the Ford, were hospitalized for injuries suffered in the senseless street racing crash. The Ford driver killed in the wreck with the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified, pending notification of his family.

The Gardena street-racing death and injury follows another deadly street racing wreck that occurred February 26, in Chatsworth, when another Ford Mustang crashed through a crowd of people, killing two and seriously injuring a third.
