A Santa Clarita man driving a 1991 Nissan pickup truck lost his life around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, when he was hit head-on by a 2010 Mazda sedan driven by Susan Munoz, age 22, of Castaic, a small, Los Angeles County community just north of Santa Clarita. The accident occurred on The Old Road, near Hillcrest Parkway in Castaic, when Munoz’ southbound Mazda first sideswiped a 2010 Toyota driven by Jessica Rausch and then crashed full-force into the front of the Nissan, which also carried a passenger, Kimberly Milligan.
TWO STILL FIGHTING FOR LIFE
The driver of the Nissan, whose identity has not been released pending notification of loved ones, was declared dead at the scene of the catastrophic car wreck. Los Angeles County firefighters worked hastily to extract the injured Munoz and Milligan from their crushed vehicles and emergency personnel rushed them to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
Susan Munoz was critically injured in the violent auto accident and remained in critical condition last week at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, clinging to life. Kimberly Milligan sustained serious injuries in the wreck and was also taken to the same hospital, where she remained in serious condition, according to news sources who interviewed a hospital spokeswoman, Maria Orem.
Twenty-eight year old Jessica Rausch, the driver of the Toyota hit initially by Munoz, was more fortunate. She escaped with minor injuries after this brush with accidental death.
OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION: “UNKNOWN REASON”
According to one news source, an accident report by California Highway Patrol Officer Benjamin Ibarra, who investigated this fatal motor vehicle accident, stated that Munoz crossed into the northbound lane “for an unknown reason,” and that the collision with the Toyota and second, severe crash with the Nissan resulted. At the time of the report, it was unknown whether Munoz was driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
