Orange County Adult School Roof Collapses; Injures at Least 13 People

North Orange County Regional Occupational School aka North ROP Career and Technical Institute of Orange was the scene of a horrific roof collapse earlier this morning. Located in Anaheim California just 30 minutes south of Los Angeles, adult classes were under-way at the North Orange County Regional Occupational Center. While students were inside the classroom and the heavy rainfall continued throughout the night, a malfunctioning drain caused water to collect on the roof of one of the classrooms. Part of the roof as well as an air conditioning unit fell into the classroom. An instructor was trapped under debris until removed by rescue teams.

Those injured have been taken to local hospitals and are being treated for various injuries. The City of Anaheim website states that there was a building permit that was taken out for a new roof in August 2007. It is unclear whether the roof was ever replaced.
