Fort Worth Semi Driver Farhaan Hirsi Injured in Accident Near Effingham

The Illinois State Police have issued citations to a Fort Worth semi driver after an accident on April 17. At approximately 10:30 p.m., the police received a call about a purple 2001 Freightliner that had left the roadway on Interstate 57.

After arriving at the scene, the police found 36-year-old Farhaan Hirsi and his semi-truck in the median of Interstate 57. After investigating the accident, they concluded that Hirsi was driving too fast when he lost control of the semi. He left the road from the left lane when he hit the bridge support close to mile marker 153. The truck came to rest in the center median.

Emergency medical personnel had to transport Hirsi from the scene of the accident. They took him to the nearby HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries that were considered non-life threatening.

The Illinois State Police have issued Hirsi citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and improper lane usage.

The reports did not distinguish why the truck left the roadway initially. As it stands, speed and improper lane usage appear to be the only factors. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and there were no other injuries recorded.

There have been no further updates available on the condition of Hirsi. The assumption is that he was treated at the hospital and released with his citations. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the accident, and there are no pending charges.
