At approximately 3:30 a.m., authorities were called to respond at a single-vehicle accident west of Chillicothe. The identified victim, 21-year-old Ethan Koch, was driving east on Truitt Road when he left the road on the northern side. The vehicle flipped multiple times once it left the road.

Based on the coroner’s report, Koch sustained multiple blunt force injuries due to being ejected from the vehicle during the accident. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time the car left the roadway.

Koch was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Because of evidence that was gathered at the scene, a toxicology report has been requested. The coroner did state that an autopsy will not be performed, but they are awaiting the results from toxicology.

The results will determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. There were no other vehicles involved during the accident. The reports also indicated that Koch was alone in the vehicle at the time of the single-car accident.

The investigation is currently ongoing to determine what caused Koch to leave the roadway, to begin with. If anyone has any information regarding the accident or where Koch was going to or coming from, they are asked to call the Illinois State Police tip line.
