An 84-year-old man was killed at approximately 8:30 Monday morning, when an oak tree fell on his vehicle.
The tragedy occurred in the 2200 block of Willow Glen Road, in Fallbrook, California. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was trapped in his vehicle, a gray Toyota Sienna, for several hours while authorities cleared away the wreckage of the tree.
Following the collision, Willow Glen Road was closed until early Monday afternoon, when the last of the wreckage from the crash was removed.
Authorities are still unsure what caused the tree to fall, but California Highway Patrol believes that its root system may have been weakened by rains in the area. An investigation remains ongoing.
The identity of the man has not been released.
