Cyclist Killed, Driver Flees


Cyclist Paul Hurst was killed in a hit-and-run collision Wednesday in Stanton, California.

The accident occurred at the corner of Chapman Avenue and Beach Boulevard early Wednesday morning, at approximately 2:40 a.m. Hurst died shortly afterwards, at the UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Hurst, age 39, was listed as a transient with no primary city of residence.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are still uncertain, and it is unclear what Hurst was doing, and where he was located in the intersection, at the time of the accident. His bicycle came to rest in the crosswalk after being hit.

The driver, who was said to be driving a beige Nissan, fled the scene immediately after the crash. However, authorities detained a suspect matching the description of the driver approximately half an hour later, at 3:15 a.m.
