Two people were injured in a serious car crash that occurred in the University City region of San Diego early Thursday morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m., at the intersection of Eastgate Mall and Genesee Avenue, and involved two vehicles, a white Dodge Ram and a black Honda. The Dodge appears to have hit the Honda on its driver’s side.
Following the accident, the Honda was knocked down an embankment by the side of the road. Its driver remained trapped in the vehicle until rescuers cut him free of the car half an hour later. He has been hospitalized with serious injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was also hospitalized, although the extent of his injuries are unclear. The driver is believed to have been involved in a construction project at a nearby construction site. The crash remains under investigation.
Following the collision, the intersection was closed, but reopened by 5:30 a.m.
