Jose Ramos, 39, Killed In Desert Hot Springs While Crossing Street

Pedestrian Jose Ramos, 39, was killed while crossing the street in Desert Hot Springs Friday night.

While crossing near the 13300 block of Palm Drive, just after 8:40, the driver hit Ramos and immediately stopped. Police say the driver did not appear to be speeding and was cooperative.

Some reports have said Ramos was jaywalking at the time of the accident. Under the California Vehicle Code, a pedestrian still has the right of way whether in a marked crosswalk or unmarked.
